Engineering Services for Buildings

Suffolk Skills Show 2019

We enjoyed another successful year at our fifth Suffolk Skills Show at Trinity Park, Ipswich.  Various members of our staff were present to showcase the work that we do and to encourage youngsters that a career in building services is an exciting and rewarding one. Over two hundred pupils between the age of 13 to 17 stopped by our stand and expressed an interest.  We were the only construction business exhibiting at the event to offer a “have a go interactive area.”  We explained to students how BIM is helping us with design and clash detection. We showed them one of our Revit models and gave them a 3D fly through of the services on one of our projects. Elsewhere on our stand, we demonstrated the method involved in wiring a socket and we conducted a fun strength test by putting a gland on a cable. Mechanically, we had a two way race with the students to build a copy of our metal man using a number of different ½” steel fittings. All of the students who participated went home with a Bower Fuller goodie bag. Hopefully, we have helped to inspire a few that building services is a viable career option. Perhaps some of our visitors may even apply in due course to join our trainee engineer or craftsmen apprenticeship programmes.
