Engineering Services for Buildings

The Møller Centre, Cambridge

The Møller Centre is a world-class dedicated residential leadership development and conference centre at Churchill College, in the University of Cambridge. In partnership with Main Contractor Morgan Sindall we completed a major enhancement of their existing facilities which is sympathetic to the building’s original Scandinavian roots. To the North of the building, a basement has been created at the back of house area “hub” together with a three storey new extension accommodating twelve fully air conditioned en-suite bedrooms. In parallel, the West end of the building has been refurbished and extended at all levels to provide a further seven bedrooms, additional meeting rooms, break out areas and a complete overhaul and extension of the existing commercial kitchen facilities.

Externally, the triangular courtyard has also been brought inside to produce further break out and bar areas.

The construction team worked very closely with the client enabling their operation to continue despite the extensive nature of the works which required cutting into and adapting the existing gas, drainage, heating and hot water systems, rationalisation and separation of the existing ventilation systems, provision of new ventilation plant and VRF systems and extending and modifying the existing trend building management system. Electrically power, lighting, access control, fire alarm, PV and lightning protection were all incorporated within the new scheme.
