Engineering Services for Buildings

Redlees Ward Stroke Unit, West Middlesex Hospital

Bower Fuller worked with main contractor Logan to deliver a new Stroke Unit at West Middlesex Hospital for the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust. The scheme involved a complete refurbishment of an entire floor of the existing Marjory Warren Building to create the new ward with associated plant located on the roof.

The project provides a state-of-the-art 24 bed ward, ancillary accommodation and  equipped rehabilitation spaces to support the enhanced medical and wellness needs of patients.

The mechanical elements consisted of new ventilation systems, AC, medical gases, LTHW distribution, chilled water cooling, domestic water services, and a new building management system all in compliance with the latest technical and HTM requirements.

The electrical installation comprised an extension to the LV distribution network, a new lighting control system, lighting, small power, and data systems. Features of the design include fibre optic lighting and Sky LED panels to illuminate the ward areas and improve patient experience with a bright, yet calming and less clinical environment.

The modifications to the LTHW system and Main LV cubicle panel were carefully executed to ensure there was no disruption to the operation of the surrounding wards. Effective planning and sequencing were therefore fundamental components of the success of the project.
