Engineering Services for Buildings

Pharmaron, Hoddesdon

In partnership with consultant and management contractor Bailey Gomm, Bower Fuller completed the mechanical, electrical and plumbing installation to the 1st phase of the 2nd Floor Fleming building refurbishment and development at Pharmaron’s life sciences research and development facility in Hoddesdon.

Our scope encompassed the complete installation of all services centred around 4 No. main laboratories, each containing 10 No. fume cupboards, along with associated write up areas and ancillary laboratory spaces.

The works were carried out whilst the remainder of the building (including the floor below) remained in full use and occupation, along with all the associated plant.

New plant was installed within both the 2nd floor plantroom and the roof areas. The chillers and boilers have been sized for the future fit out of the remainder of the site including 1MW of gas fired boiler plant and 750Kw of chilled water.

The ventilation units on the roof included a supply air handling and fume extract system providing 17m3/s of air to the 2nd floor. The laboratory extract system was installed in polypropylene ductwork with the largest ductwork sections being 1,400mm x 1,400mm.

Other services to the building comprised laboratory gas systems, purified water systems, a new gas supply, laboratory drainage systems, LED lighting throughout, small power installations and fire alarms.
