Moreton Hall Community Centre, Bury St. Edmunds
Working within a live functioning community centre serving and used by the local community daily, MHCC was a project with a few challenges. We were appointed by West Suffolk Council as the main contractor and building services provider to strip out and replace two first floor plantroom Air Handling Units (AHU’s), provide a new BMS system, new lighting to the plant space and two new gas fired boilers.
As the site remained fully operational during the duration of the project, a phased approach to the works had to be adopted. We were responsible for providing the welfare for all trades on site, and closely liaising with the community centre on a daily basis avoiding noisy work activities when occupied by clubs and playgroups to ensure minimal disruption was experienced throughout the program. As part of the main contractor role, a new loft hatch and ladder were fitted, and new guardrails around a larger existing loft hatch complete with localised decorations were required.
The main social club bar area and function rooms were provided with new long projection grilles and reduced ventilation run outs, serviced from the two new AHU’s, with LTHW heater batteries and localised controls.
The facility offers all local residents the opportunity to hire various spaces and regularly hold darts, poker, pool and bingo evenings along with a local post office and library on site.
