Mary Seacole Building
We were appointed by main contractor Mulalley to carry out a refurbishment of the Mary Seacole building at the Greenwich University, Avery Hill campus. The fast-track project was delivered within fourteen weeks and has created a significant expansion of the teaching facilities.
The mechanical package comprised new supply and extract air handling units producing 7m3/s supply and extract air, with a VRV heat pump system providing heating and cooling to the supply air. The new exposed ductwork had to be carefully co-ordinated and was a prominent feature of the refurbishment. Due to logistics and spatial restrictions, the air handling units had to be flat packed for delivery and assembled on site.
Other mechanical elements included the installation of new AC systems serving the comms room and IT Suite, the relocation of an existing plant room to facilitate the new air handling unit location, a new toilet extract system and modifications to the existing automatic controls system.
The electrical installation involved a new Smartscan LED lighting and controls arrangement throughout the building. The wireless lighting control system allows the university to monitor the energy performance and building usage data together with other operational information for all standard and emergency luminaires.
The electrical works also incorporated fire alarm upgrades, new exposed containment systems, the AV first fix infrastructure and a new structured cabling network.
