Situated within the South Maldon Garden Suburb development, the school offers a modern teaching and learning environment for 420 pupils and a 56-place nursery to support the area’s planned 1000 new homes. The scheme boasts 13 classrooms, practical rooms, a studio, SEN room and a fully equipped kitchen with dining facilities.
Designed for Net Zero operation, the building incorporates advanced green technologies, including three air source heat pumps (ASHP) for heating, a dedicated high temperature ASHP for hot water, and a 96kW rooftop photovoltaic system for renewable energy. The classrooms and nursery utilise natural ventilation heat recovery units (NVHR) while other areas feature mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR). “Windcatcher” ventilation units have been integrated in the main hall, which also benefits from underfloor heating.
Electrical services include high efficiency LED luminaires within the classroom areas, fitted with a smart lighting control for energy efficiency and daylight dimming. New small power services were installed throughout, including fire alarm, disabled services, a security system and multiple EV chargers.
Energy performance of the building is monitored via the K2N platform, supplying automated data on usage, temperatures and Co2 levels every 15 minutes. This provides the client with a monthly report benchmarked against DFE targets.
