Engineering Services for Buildings

Kings Hedges School

This project involved the refurbishment of the current primary school building and a large extension which increased the school’s pupil capacity by up to 150 students.

Working in partnership with Morgan Sindall as part of the Cambridge County Council Framework, Bower Fuller was responsible for the installation of both mechanical and electrical services. As the school remained open during the programme, close liaison with the school staff was essential to minimise disruption.

Mechanical services included a new incoming gas main serving the LTHW which in turn fed the Gilberts natural ventilation heating coils and hot water cylinder. The ventilation for the toilet areas was supplied via a roof mounted air handling unit, with the classrooms supplied via the Gilberts natural ventilation system. The existing school was remodelled and local domestic water, heating, ventilation and A/C services were amended to suit the new layout.

Electrical services comprised the replacement of the old electrical system and new installation in the extension. This required a new mains distribution system, lighting and power, new lighting, emergency lighting, data services, disabled refuge, fire alarm and security systems. The refurbishment of the existing school provides modifications to the existing power, data infrastructure, fire alarm, security systems and access control and a new standalone PV system.
