Engineering Services for Buildings

Ipswich Hospital, Cardiology Department

Bower Fuller worked with Barnes Construction and Consultants, The Energy Practice, to provide the mechanical and electrical services installation on this conversion of a day theatre suite into a new Cardiology Unit. The Cardiology Unit has two theatres and a ten bed ward with ancillary rooms.

The department is located on the hospitals main access corridor so careful consideration was given to patients and staff in order to minimise the disruption caused by noise, dust and access routes.

The new theatres feature positive pressure mechanical ventilation controlled by surgeon panels and a full spectrum of mood LED lighting.

Mechanically a new hot and cold water system, a medical gas distribution system, air conditioning and a ventilation system was installed. A new roof plantroom houses the mechanical equipment and the AHU’s have been directly mounted on the on the roof.

Electrically the conversion required a new LV power switch panel, fire alarm system, IPS/UPS system, nurse call system, access control, lighting, data/Wi-Fi system and Bedhead services.

The project was handed over to the Trust meeting target completion dates as a result of communication and collaborative management between all members of the project team.
