Engineering Services for Buildings

Ellenor Hospice

Working in partnership with Barnes Construction, we carried out the full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations for a new Wellbeing Centre at Ellenor Hospice, Kent.

The project involved the refurbishment of an existing wing and the construction of a new modern extension. The expanded facilities enhances the client’s capacity to provide all wellbeing services due to the creation of outpatient consultation and counselling rooms, occupational and complementary therapy facilities, improved play therapy rooms for children, quiet areas for patients and their families, as well as a large multipurpose activities space to support patients in maintaining their independence and maximising their quality of life. This scheme also serves as a hub for health and social care professionals to receive education and training in palliative and end-of-life care.

The mechanical services comprised new ventilation throughout, an extension to the LTHW system, new domestic services, a new VRF system and a full upgrade of the existing boiler room, all integrated with a building management controls system.

The electrical systems were comprehensively upgraded, including a new switch room, LV distribution network, standby generator, data network, security systems, nurse call, fire alarm and a DALI lighting arrangement.

To minimise disruption to the Hospice’s daily operations, careful planning and sequencing was essential, particularly during the upgrades to the boiler room and the LV distribution changeovers.
