Engineering Services for Buildings

Ebbsfleet – Weldon Heart Community Building

Working alongside main contractor Thomas Sinden, Bower Fuller completed the full mechanical and electrical package for the Weldon Heart Community Centre, in Ebbsfleet, Kent.

Designed to be the beating heart of the neighbourhood, the development provides a modern, flexible space where local residents can gather, celebrate, collaborate and connect. The centre includes a bright and welcoming   kitchen/café, a versatile main hall with a capacity for 110 people, two fully equipped meeting rooms, office and reception areas, changing facilities, WC provision, and ample storage with parcel delivery and collection lockers – ensuring it meets a wide range of community needs.

Striking architectural features such as the signature external sail, outdoor terrace and children’s play area enhance its identity, while the exposed cross laminated timber interior and carefully coordinated exposed services create a warm, contemporary aesthetic.

Oue team delivered a highly efficient mechanical installation comprising a roof mounted air source heat pump paired with underfloor heating to maximise comfort and sustainability. Ventilation is supported by a dedicated kitchen supply and fire rated kitchen extract system, along with a MVHR arrangement serving the wider building. We also provided all domestic and drainage systems, and CAT5 booster for external watering points.

The electrical elements incorporate specialist low energy light fittings suspended in the hall with intelligent lighting controls, comprehensive small power distribution, CAT6A data infrastructure, security and access control systems, and an audio frequency induction loop to support inclusive community use.

Externally, we fitted a wide range of services including pop up power boxes, electric vehicle chargers, street and bollard lighting and bespoke tree uplighters – extending functionality and atmosphere well beyond the main structure.
