Engineering Services for Buildings

Co-Op Retail Centre, Colchester

This project involved the redevelopment of an existing site and small store belonging to the Co-operative Society to provide a new larger store, giving over 2100m2 of retail space and over 670m2 of office accommodation.

The project also incorporated extensive back of store facilities including cold and chilled stores, staff areas and cash office.

The retail area is served with 17 split DX air conditioning units and a lighting control system that enables differing pre-set modes to be utilised. Settings enabled include a ‘Retail’ mode, where all fittings are energised to a ‘Security’ mode, where only those necessary to provide a low level of lighting suitable for surveillance are enabled.

A standby generator was installed together with a new fire alarm, data and security systems.

The offices are separated into two metered areas for subletting and each are served by a VRV air conditioning system and ducted fresh air supply and extract, modular lighting and fire alarm systems. Power and data are distributed to floor boxes via trunking within the false floor.

Domestic hot and cold water services and toilet extract are provided to the core areas.
