Cherry Hinton Junior School, Cambridge
This project delivered a substantial expansion to enable the school to change its role from an infant school to a primary school. The new school operates operate under the name of Bewick Community Primary School. The expansion provides the school with 10 new classrooms, multi-purpose hall, activity area and staffroom. This has created facilities for an additional 300 children to attend.
The new building employs an underfloor heating system which is supplied by ground source heat pumps. Bower Fuller was responsible for the installation of this system along with the natural ventilation, mechanical heat recovery ventilation and the hot and cold water services.
As part of the energy saving measures an intelligent lighting system with presence detectors was installed which also comprised emergency lighting, sub-main cabling, fire alarm, security system, TV / Data and loudspeakers.
Bower Fuller was delighted to be awarded a “Perfect Delivery” by Morgan Sindall, which means the project exceeded the stringent measurable criterion on safety, timing, quality and meeting customer objectives.
