Castle Hill Primary School, Ipswich
We were appointed by Asset Education to replace their existing end of life gas fired boiler plant and to also carry out major new distribution pipework to the school due to ongoing failures. Following an asbestos strip within the existing boiler house, the old plant and equipment was completely stripped out and a new energy efficient gas fired boiler set, plate to plate heat exchanger and gas fired water heater was provided. The existing heating distribution pipework was located within a range of floor ducts throughout the single storey school providing various heating zones, however the existing pipework had too many failures in the last few years and with the added complication of asbestos thermal insulation in the floor ducts, the decision was made to run a new set of zoned heating distribution pipework across the school roof and drop to pick up the existing heating systems.
We provided new lighting and power in the boiler room and also made improvements to the existing lightning protection system to incorporate the new pipework on the roof. A new BMS and control panel was provided to bring in new control energy efficiencies. As part of the works we also provided the necessary builders work, including forming holes in the roof, weathering, providing boxings for pipework and final decorations.
We worked closely with the school to allow us early access in the last few weeks of the summer school term to complete the works over the school summer holidays, and then completing the works during the Autumn half term, to provide an operational heating system.
