Engineering Services for Buildings

Beths School, Bexley

Working with main contractor, Hutton Construction, we completed the mechanical and electrical services for a new 6th form extension at Beths School in Bexley, Kent.

The 4-storey scheme provides dedicated 6th form facilities, including an open plan common room on the ground floor which features exposed services, a café servery and 14 classrooms across the upper floors.

The mechanical elements comprise two roof mounted air source heat pumps as the primary heating source, underfloor heating arrangements throughout, and individual MVHR air handling units serving each classroom. A bespoke BMS system also forms part of the scope and is linked back to the existing BMS head end.

The electrical services encompass comprehensive LV distribution, Dali controlled lighting, a data package, a photovoltaic array and extensions to the fire alarm and PAVA systems. Access control, intruder alarm and CCTV were seamlessly integrated with the school’s existing infrastructure, while AOV wiring and controls were also provided to each staircase.

As part of the wider development, a new electrical substation was installed within the existing car park. New mains distribution panels were fitted to supply both the new and existing buildings, alongside approximately 275m of parallel 185mm2 four-core SWA cabling.
