Astex Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge
We have been strengthening our relationship directly with this client in the science sector since we were part of the build team who created new facilities for Astex a few years back. We have now carried out various services alterations at their laboratory and data centre to interface with the installation of upgraded technology by Astex. This has involved adapting power, lighting, ventilation, medical gases, fire alarms and suspended ceilings as well as providing a new uninterrupted power supply system for their new nuclear magnetic resonance equipment. We have also supported Astex on projects ranging from a complete upgrade of the power supply system for their central IT equipment to entire laboratory upgrades comprising electrical, mechanical, medical gas, ventilation and cooling elements. Astex is a member of one of Japan’s leading pharmaceutical companies, the Otsuka group. They are a leader in innovative drug discovery and development, specifically in the field of cancer and diseases of the central nervous system.

“Astex has used Bower Fuller for number of projects, a mix of electrical and mechanical. The work is always carefully considered, planned, and carried out to the highest standard. The team understand the complexities of working in a live laboratory environment and always ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum to allow day to day work to continue safely. Bower Fuller has recently completed large- and small-scale lab refits and improvements working directly for Astex or through a main contractor and in both cases the communication is excellent. The works they do allow Astex to be flexible and adapt to changing technology and techniques, our relationship with Bower Fuller is highly valued.”
