Engineering Services for Buildings

Ipswich Museum

We have been appointed to deliver the mechanical and electrical services for the redevelopment of the Ipswich Museum with Gipping Construction. The museum was created in the 1840’s by a local industrialist with the aim of public improvement, scientific study, and public debate. Moving to its current site in the High Street Ipswich in 1881 it become a hub of arts, science, and learning. It was a leading museum of its time, quickly gaining a national reputation enhanced by Prince Albert’s visit in 1851. The museum’s interior still contains many authentic Victorian features, which are part of the original vision that is celebrated by visitors and staff. The Victorian Natural History Gallery (see below), its balcony and the Bass Rock diorama are amongst the most significant displays. Some of their iconic objects, such as the rhino and giraffe, have become symbols of Ipswich. These galleries are important parts of the heritage. A key objective of the scheme is to retain and enhance the original Victorian atmosphere of the Natural History Gallery.
