Hughes Hall opens its latest building and view

Gresham Court in Cambridge welcomed their first students at the beginning of September to Hughes Hall’s new £12m student accommodation  – an impressive new building comprising 85 student rooms and a resident students’ study centre now stands proudly on the edge of Fenner’s Lawn. The opening of Gresham Court represents an important milestone in the development of Hughes Hall. Occupying a fine site on the historic sporting space of Fenner’s opposite the main College buildings, the new building is linked by a pathway across Fenner’s which runs to the Pavilion Room garden.

The main façade on Gresham Road  provides the College with a significant public frontage for the first time in its 131 year history, greatly enhancing their presence in Cambridge. A striking feature is the view through the undercroft across the green sward of Fenner’s to the Wileman building.

Bower Fuller designed supplied and installed the combined mechanical and electrical services for the scheme. As the new accommodation block replaced the cricket club’s changing rooms, a new changing block was also provided for the cricket club as part of the works.
