Hospital ward refurbishments are not easy projects – they require a different approach. Initials surveys are not always possible, access to the area is surrounded by a busy 24/7 hospital, there are noise and dust restrictions and our works require us to cut into different existing services, often outside the construction area which necessitates close liaison with the NHS Trust team and other trades.
We have recently completed the full refurbishment of Ward F3 at Addenbrookes Hospital – the latest in a number of ward refurbishments by Bower Fuller at Addenbrookes and other hospitals.
Ward F3 is a 24 bed day care unit with additional clinical treatment areas. It is used to admit young people for either elective day surgery procedures or paediatric investigations and assessments. It also has the facility to cater for overnight admission as appropriate.
The 17 week construction programme enabled the safe disconnection of all mechanical and electrical services from the existing systems surrounding the land locked ward. In turn, the new services for the ward were installed in close liaison with the main contractor’s team and then bringing the ward back on line with the rest of the hospital. The refurbished ward provides additional beds with a new bright and colourful feel whilst giving the waiting parents better facilities. Bower Fuller is proud of their continued work at Addenbrookes Hospital.
