Granta House

In just 8 weeks, a 27 bed 4-storey accommodation block was fully refurbished and commissioned in time for student occupation.

The project consisted of refurbishing the bedrooms, common rooms, bathroom facilities, teacher accommodation and ground floor office areas.

New heating, plumbing, sanitaryware, lighting, power and ventilation systems were installed. Parts of the building were remodelled, as well as re-decorated. In addition, the existing boiler plant and hot water generators and pumps were replaced.

This demanding project benefited from a site team of over 20 directly employed electricians, fitters and plumbers at the height of the works.

This number of people, coupled with those for the other trades, required extensive site co-ordination and works programming.

To meet the tight programme, we were involved with the M&E early in the design stage; and extensive pre-planning was carried out with the other team members.

This provided tangible benefits with the early identification and resolution of many issues, prior to the site works commencing.

The result was the accomplishment of a successful and timely handover, to a very demanding programme.

Fen House

Following the successful delivery of Granta House, the client wished to keep the same team for the refurbishment of Fen House, a similar 70 room accommodation block, during the following summer holiday period, under a negotiated contract.

This project was also successfully completed within an 8 week period
