Engineering Services for Buildings

Cornings Research, Martlesham Heath

The existing office and research laboratory building had to remain operational during an extensive refurbishment and re-modelling programme of the facilities.

Bower Fuller undertook the full design and installation of the extensive mechanical services.

Services to the laboratories included laboratory gases (nitrogen, oxygen, helium and other specialist gases) liquid nitrogen for process cooling and fume cupboard ventilation via PVC ducting, and high temperature acid resistant drainage which included an acid neutralising system.

The office sections were air conditioned via a four pipe fan coil unit system concealed in the ceiling void; with ducted air distribution.

The heating load was supplied from an existing MTHW system, via heat exchangers, whilst the cooling load required an additional air cooled chiller to be coupled with an existing unit.
