Engineering Services for Buildings

Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality

To support our people and clients a professional approach to health, safety, the environment and quality is central to everything we do at Bower Fuller. It influences the way we think, the way we plan, the way we behave and most importantly the way we perform. We believe exemplary performance in this area is a catalyst to success and we will not compromise on this.

Health and Safety

To demonstrate our ongoing commitment to protecting and enhancing our most important asset, our people, to drive business excellence and to deliver safe, healthy and sustainable work, we are accredited to the new ISO 45001 global standard for occupational health and safety.

A key aim of ours is to create and maintain safe sites by promoting a clear health and safety ethos to all of our employees and supply chain.

We believe effective supervision and communication is a driving factor in maintaining safe sites and Bower Fuller has committed to ensure that all of our supervisors hold the Construction Skills Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificate, and that all of our engineering team hold the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificates. All other site staff receive core health and safety training supplemented with specialist training as required. Regular tool box talks by either site supervisors, contract managers or our in house Health and Safety Department are delivered to promote and maintain a state of awareness on health, safety and environmental matters and promote an important open dialogue within our team. Working safely is a core value for Bower Fuller and we pride ourselves on our efforts to work towards an incident and injury free environment. To achieve our target we focus on a range of measures such as training, safety bulletins, site inspections, near miss reporting and accident/incident investigation. Regular health and safety committee meetings are also convened within the business to monitor our performance, raise awareness, explore initiatives and review lessons learnt. Every level within Bower Fuller participates in these meetings with directors, managers and a cross section of site operatives always in attendance.

Environment

Accredited to ISO 14001 standard, we strive to limit our environmental impact and deliver the most sustainable solutions to our clients. Our extensive experience in designing and installing low carbon mechanical and electrical schemes means that we are able to assist our clients in meeting their sustainability targets and deliver significant long term value of their property assets.

We focus on utilising sustainable materials with traceability where appropriate and within the limitations of the specification, particularly products that can be sourced locally, recycled and/or have a longer life span and hence do not need to be replaced as often.

In terms of travel to and from sites, we have introduced a transport plan with crew buses and multi seat vans deployed as far as possible to minimise employee commuter emissions. We also review and implement a policy of deploying local labour where possible.

When operating as a main contractor, we employ a Site Waste Management Plan for our sites and subcontractors. When operating as a subcontractor, Bower Fuller meets the main contractor’s approach as a minimum and endeavours to enhance these standards if feasible. Indeed, we are always looking at improving the ways in which we recycle our waste products not only on site, but also in our offices.

As a Group, we are involved in the Suffolk Carbon Charter with an underlying aim of reducing our carbon footprint in our offices. Measures that we have taken include installation of PV’s on the roof with a display monitoring screen in our Reception to capture energy data, we have minimised water consumption using sensor taps and low flush frequency urinals and cisterns, we have replaced our lighting arrangement with LED’s and metering, we have re-clad our roof with insulation within the roof and external walls, and are progressing a programme of installing new glazing throughout to reduce heat losses through improved insulation.

Quality

Bower Fuller is accredited to Gas Safe, NICEIC, ISO 9001:2015, CHAS, Constructionline, and Safecontractor. We are also active members of the BESA and ECA.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information on our key policies or accreditations.
