Chantry School – Sports Facilities

This was project delivered under a partnering arrangement with Suffolk County Council and the Main Contractor.  It involved the construction of new changing and shower facilities to serve a new all weather sports pitch, providing facilities for both the school and the general public.

Bower Fuller secured the project on the basis of its “Partnering Proposals” submission to the design team. We had significant involvement at design stage and provided cost advice to assist in engineering the scheme to comply with budget parameters.

Part of the scope required the relocation of an underused new boiler from the existing school to the new dedicated sports facility plant room.

The project provided four multi sex changing rooms and showers, a reception area, a class base and staff areas.  Also as part of the contract, the schools’ existing adjacent pupil changing areas and indoor sports facilities were refurbished.

A number of energy saving systems were designed into the scheme:

  • Hot water supply via solar panels, with the heating installation providing a top up only as required.

  • Ventilation for all the changing areas are provided via a central supply and extract system incorporating a plate heat exchanger.

  • Inverter driven fans and ramp up/down depending on the number of changing rooms in use.  This is achieved by interlinking PIR sensors to the fan motors.

  • PIR activated lighting in the changing rooms to ensure efficient use.
