The amalgamation of the two schools required extensive alterations, refurbishment and a new build extension to existing to provide additional classroom facilities, sixth form centre and a new special needs facility. Bower Fuller secured the contract on a partnered, open book basis, with a mechanism to award collaborative working practices. From the outset, we worked in close collaboration with the design team and main contractor to establish a workable design to reconcile with client’s budget restrictions. This was achieved with the client’s design team and our staff value engineering the project from shared office facilities. Part of the works involved renewable energy systems. A separate building housed a 300kw biomass boiler and woodchip store for ease of access for fuel deliveries. A solar hot water heating installation provided the main source of hot water heating, topped up by the biomass boiler system. |
